We’re a medium-sized WI with about 50 members. The Shrivenham & District WI has been part of village life since 1919, with records charting local activities across the decades.
As one of Shrivenham’s longest‑standing community groups, the WI offers friendship, learning and a shared sense of purpose for women in and around the village.
We meet in Shrivenham’s Memorial Hall on the third Thursday evening of the month.

The Women’s Institute is the largest women’s organisation in the UK, bringing members together for talks, hands‑on workshops, cultural visits, volunteering and campaigning.
Locally we’re part of the local Oxfordshire Federation (OFWI) of WIs and nationally, the WI encourages women to try new skills, build friendships and shape the issues that matter in their communities.
The National Federation of Women's Institutes (NFWI) is the national umbrella organisation.

I am Gail, President of our WI.
The best way to get to know the members is to be
on the committee, who meet once a month to discuss,
plan and share actions for future meetings and events.
Hilary - Treasurer
18 months after joining the WI I became a committee member. Within 6 months I took on the role of Treasurer. I participate in the Clippers, Quiz and Crafts groups.
Celia - Membership Secretary
I spent several enjoyable years in the WI in Bedfordshire, so I rejoined in January 2018 when I moved to Shrivenham. Being Secretary has given me the chance to get to know lots of people in my new location.

I moved to Shrivenham in 2023 and joining the WI has been a lovely way to meet people and feel part of the village.
