Sustainable Energy – Without the Hot Air
17th September 2026 - 7.30pm
Our next meeting is on Thursday, 17th September. At this meeting, Robin Stafford Allen will be giving a talk entitled Sustainable Energy – Without the Hot Air.
Robin is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. He began his professional career in the motor industry and later worked on the engineering of the first generation of MRI magnets and cryostats with Oxford Magnet Technology, then part of Oxford Instruments. Before retiring, Robin worked part-time for the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and lectured part-time in Engineering at Oxford Brookes University.
Robin will attempt to answer several questions, including: "Can we conceivably live on renewable energy?" He will aim to dispel some common misconceptions about how we should respond to the energy crisis and, hopefully, will try not to be too depressing!
